Children and adolescent therapy
As a nurse with 15 years of pediatric experience I especially love to work with children and adolescents. I have learned to communicate well with them often using mediums such as play, arts and crafts or music, I enjoy helping the client to verbalize what they are having a hard time communicating. I have found the use of sand tray therapy to be especially helpful in allowing the client to put words to their thoughts or memories.
I previously worked as an intern in a children's group home and found that I have a special interest in working with adolescents who are having a hard time finding their place in this world. I have learned how to build trusting relationships with those who are often difficult to get to know. I enjoy working with older teens who are making the transition into becoming an adult and learning the skills of independent living.
Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults. Play therapy uses play, children's natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words.
